Azzam: The Butterfly Effect is a Saudi 3D animated feature, 90 minutes long, in cinemas across Saudi Arabia from 10 September 2026.
It follows Azzam, a twelve-year-old who lost his father three years ago and retreated into his screen, until a strange accident leaves him in a coma and he wakes in a world made by butterflies. A coming-of-age journey about belonging, courage and finding happiness after loss, told through adventure and comedy.
Directed by Ahmed Mounir, written by Hani Titawi, distributed by QANAWAT. In Arabic with English subtitles, suitable for family audiences.
Azzam: The Butterfly Effect opens on 10 September 2026 across 70 screens in 21 Saudi cities, followed by Gulf cinemas from 24 September 2026.
Screens are spread across VOX, Muvi, SCENE, EMPIRE, PLAY, GRAND, NOIR, REEL, CineHouse, Cinema Al Balad, Cinema Al Jadidah, Cinema Al Ula and Cinema Neom.
The widest release is in Riyadh (24 screens), then Jeddah (15) and Dammam (4). Booking opens through cinema apps and websites closer to release.
Azzam: The Butterfly Effect follows a twelve-year-old boy who lost his father three years ago in a sudden accident and fled the loss into his screen, until the isolation stopped being a symptom and became a choice.
On the last day of school he travels with his mother and uncle to the family's home region in Asir, where the loneliness only deepens — everything there reminds him of his father. Then a strange accident leaves him in a brief coma, and he wakes in a world made by butterflies, where every character he meets is a part of himself he has not yet admitted to.
The butterfly effect is a well-known idea in chaos theory: a small change in initial conditions can lead to a completely different outcome in a complex system — a butterfly's wingbeat may set off a chain of events ending in a storm elsewhere. The concept moved from meteorology into the rest of human knowledge more than sixty years ago.
In Azzam: The Butterfly Effect the idea is literal — the effect a butterfly has on Azzam's awareness and behaviour, and the radical change in who he becomes once he finds himself in the butterfly world, searching for himself.
Azzam: The Butterfly Effect runs 90 minutes, in Arabic with English subtitles.
It is made for families and children, with the whole household in mind.
Azzam: The Butterfly Effect is produced by Qimam Yamen Media and Alshaya Creative, in association with MAS Studios and MAS Tech Systems, and distributed by QANAWAT.
Written by Hani Titawi, from an original idea and creative production by Abdulrahman Alshaya, directed by Ahmed Mounir, executive producer Salem Al-Jaidi, voice direction by Raed Ismail.
Voices were recorded at Durar Studios, the film song at Click Studio and the «Azzam» shailah chant at Sola Media Studio, with mix and sound effects at Feedback Studio.
